Day 3 of my juice fast. A juice fast you ask?
Yes sir.
Basically you don't eat anything and only drink special juice, tea or water. It's supposed to do a complete detox of your body by flushing out all the baddy crappy toxins from your body. Sounds like fun, huh?
Yeah...well you do this for ten days. Sounds like even more fun, huh? (Actually some detox programs are for shorter, but most of them last a week to ten days. Although some people do it for longer).
I first got interested in detox programs because a friend at church (Elly) was doing it. That just got me interested. Then I asked my supervisor at work who's done a detox program for AN ENTIRE MONTH. I don't know how she did it...but she did. Then, my cousin (who happens to own a health food store) convinced my nephew and I to do a detox program. Actually my nephew and I started together this week--I started on Tuesday, and he started on Wednesday.
So yesterday my nephew and I were talking last night. It was Day 1 for him, and Day 2 for me. He asked if it got easier.
I lied. I told him that it got easier.
"Really?" he asked.
"Nope. I'm just trying to give you hope," I answered truthfully.
Hahaha.
Well it is pretty hard to resist the temptation of food. I was surprised, because I'm pretty stubborn and I thought this fast would be no sweat. Blah. I admit--it's harder than I first thought.
Of course, I have so called "friends" (like Ben and Steve) who tried to drag me out to lunch full knowing that I'm not supposed to eat. Argh! On Day 1, Ben even brought his take-out lunch and ate it in front of me! My dad thought it was pretty funny and wants Ben to come with more food. Even Clara "claimed" that she forgot that she wasn't supposed to talk about food around me.
Yesterday, I went outside to wash my car to get away from the smell of dinner cooking in the kitchen. What does my mom do? She starts to cook outside. Ahhhh!!! It's all just driving me insane! My parents? I'll have my revenge because they plan on starting their own detox program next week.
*rubs hands gleefully*
But for my friends and any of you other wise cracks that are thinking of some plan to tempt me with food, I just have three words to say to you all:
EVIL EVIL EVIL!!!
Hahaha.
Ok. Don't mind me...I'm just hungry.

does this work as a diet program as well? :D
if it does.. hell i'd give it a try!!
good luck on your ten days..
can't imagine surviving on liquid for ten days though.. yikes..
Ok, I'm not medical expert, but this is what I say. No, this is not really a diet program. People do/can tend to lose weight on a juice detox, but in terms of healthy weight loss that's the entirely wrong approach. When you stop eating, your body starts to slow down it's metabolism. And when you're dieting you definately don't want to do that. You could try to keep up your metabolism by exercising...but honestly, I've been too lightheaded lately to really do my usual morning runs.
So even though I've lost 5 pounds in the past 48 hours, my metabolism is very slow now and I'll probably gain my weight back when I go onto solid foods again. So basically you have to do this just for the detox benefits. In the process, if you manage to shed a few pounds (and keep them off), consider it as a bonus but not the aim of the program.
Posted by: Dave on February 22, 2002 02:12 PMmy church pastor does detoxification like very month. seems to work. they have been losing weight like mad over the past few years. do u use a juice extracter or just a normal juicer? how can u actually stand it? im thinking of trying it myself

i'm proud of you that you stuck to it despite my unintentional sabotage. ;) although i never had any doubt. as you say, you *are* stubborn... hehe!
